SPG Cards With Lower Minimum Spend Requirements

Update: This offer is expired.

Through the links below, you’ll get 10,000 bonus SPG points after $1 spend, and an additional 15,000 points after you spend $3,000 within the first 3 months of card opening, for a total of 25,000 points.

Capture

SPG Consumer Card – Link
SPG Business Card – Link

These are unofficial links. With the regular official public offer, the bonus is the same, but instead of a $3,000 spend requirement, you need to spend $5,000 within the first 6 months to get the full 25,000 point bonus.

Take into account that $3,000 is obviously a total lower spend requirement than $5,000, but works out to more required spend per month, ($1,000 vs $834 with the regular public offer).

Other than the minimum spend requirement and time frame, these cards are exactly identical.

Bear in mind, that back in May, American Express changed their terms that makes anyone who ever had one of their personal cards, ineligible to receive the sign-up bonus again – ever. For the business versions, their terms state that the sign-up bonus is not available only to applicants who have or have had the product within the last 12 months. If it’s been over 12 months for your business card, you are eligible for the sign-up bonus again.

IHG Credit Card w/80k Bonus Points + USAirways 40k Bonus Ending Soon

Update: This offer is expired.

A great credit card with a lucrative sign-up bonus which is seldom talkedindex about, is the IHG Mastercard credit card from Chase. With this card, you can “unofficially” get an 80,000 point sign-up bonus after you spend $1,000 within the first 90 days.

You can apply for this card here – Note: This link takes you to a landing page where it does not state any terms of the bonus offer, hence the reason it’s “unofficial”. However, you should get the 80k bonus, and once you receive your card you can call up to confirm the bonus and terms.

The points from the credit card, can be redeemed at IHG locations worldwide which include the following hotel brands: Candlewood Suites, Crowne Plaza,  Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, and Staybridge Suites Hotels.

One of the options where at times you can get seriously lucrative value, is redeeming them for IHG’s “Point Breaks“. With “Point Breaks”, hotel rooms go for just 5,000 points per night. That means with the 80,000 bonus you can potentially get 16 free nights!

(Bear in mind that there is also a trick to buy Priority Club points for just 0.7 cents per point, which you can read about over here)

One of the great benefits of this this card, is that every year on your card anniversary, you get a free night, good at any IHG hotel worldwide – including the expensive Intercontinental hotels! The free night certificate is valid for one year from when it is issued.

This card does have a $49 annual fee which is waived for the first year. If you do not want to pay the annual fee but want the free anniversary night, you can just cancel your card once the free night hits your account as you have 60 days with Chase to get your annual fee reimbursed.

Other benefits of this card include top-tier Platinum status with IHG, no foreign transaction fees and a 10% rebate on IHG points redeemed during the year.

=========================================

The 40,000 bonus on the US Airways Premier World MasterCard is still available as of now, but this card will soon transition into an American Airlines AAdvantage MasterCard. Once this transition happens, the card will NOT be available for new applicants via Barclays bank, which is it’s current issuer – so this is from the last chances to get the card, and more importantly, the 40k bonus!

What’s awesome about this bonus is that it does not require any “minimum spend” such as $2,000 in 3 months etc;, rather you can spend as littler as just $1 to get the full 40k bonus!

There are also some other great perks on this card that you can still take advantage of including:

  • First checked bag FREE on eligible bags for you and up to 4 companions on domestic US Airways operated flight.
  • One free companion certificate good for up to two guests on US Airways operated flights at $99 each, plus taxes and fees. (Certificate is sent to new cardholders 6-8 weeks after the first purchase is made on the card.)
  • Priority Boarding Zone 2 on US Airways operated flights.
  • Earn 2X miles on all US Airways purchases and 1X miles on all other purchases.
  • Check in at the First Class counter for all of 2014.
  • One complimentary US Airways Club day pass each year.
  • Redeem flights for 5,000 fewer miles on US Airways.
  • 10,000 Preferred-qualifying miles every year you spend $25,000 or more on your card.
  • 0% introductory APR for 15 months

This card is also easily churnable, so even if you had this card in the past, you can get it again with the 40k bonus.

This card does come with an $89 annual fee which is not (officially) waived the first year (some have had luck getting the fee waived by requesting or by calling to cancel the card). Though $89 for 40,000 US Airways miles (not even taking into account the other perks) is more than worth it.

Bottom Line:

This Barclaycard  US Airways Premier World MasterCard will be discontinued very soon and this could be from your last chances to apply for it.

Once this card transitions into the new Barclays American Airlines AAdvantage card, there will be some different benefits and only existing cardholders will get the new card.  It will NOT be open to new applicants.

You can read some more about this card over here.

If you applied for this card and were denied, you can call Barclays reconsideration at 866-408-4064.

————————–

The Barclaycard US Airways Premier World MasterCard offer just got better. Up until now it had a 30,000 bonus mile offer + up to an extra 10,000 bonus miles, only after you made a balance transfer, at 1 point per dollar.

As of now the offer is for 40,000 bonus miles after your first purchase, which can be as little as only $1 and there is no need for a balance transfer. This is a solid offer, especially since there is no minimum spend requirement as most of the other cards have.

Full Benefits:

  • 40,000 Bonus Miles after your first purchase.

  • 10,000 Preferred-qualifying miles every year you spend $25,000 or more on your card.
  • 0% introductory APR for 15 months for each Balance Transfer made within 45 days of account opening.

There is an $89 annual fee which is not waived the first year, but 40,000 bonus points are more than definitely worth the $89.

US Airways:

US Airways is now part of the Oneworld alliance which includes the following airlines:

American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, US Airways, Qantas, Qatar Airways, and Royal Jordanian Airlines. You can redeem US Airways award flights on any of the Oneworld airlines.

US Airways allows one free stopover or one open-jaw on award redemption’s. On international tickets, it’s only considered a stopover, if your stop is for 24 hours or more. If it’s less than 24 hours it will not use up your free stopover, it’ll just count as a transfer. An open-jaw means you can fly into one city and fly out of another city on the same award ticket.

Also, USAirways is currently not collecting any fuel surcharges for travel on partner airline British Airways. Most British Airways partner airlines are required to collect BA’s fuel charges which can be pretty hefty at times. USAirways is currently not collecting any of these fuel charges. Though this may very well be a glitch or something, and may not last foreverUpdate: US Airways has updated their pricing system and has now started collecting fuel surcharges for British Airways awards.

With USAirways miles

  • Domestic round-trip awards on USAirways are normally 25,000 miles. With the US Airways Premier World MasterCard credit card, your total round-trip will be only 20,000 miles, as this card offers a 5,000 mile discount on all awards. 40,000 miles = 2 free round trip domestic flights.
  • Round-trip to Australia in first class is only 140,000 miles. In Business it’s just 110,000 miles.
  • Round-trip to North Asia (including China, Hong Kong, Japan), with this card is just 55,000 miles round-trip in coach, 105,000 miles round-trip in Business and just 115,000 miles round-trip in First class.
  • To Israel, It’s normally 80,000 miles for a round-trip coach class ticket, 120,000 miles in Business, and in First it’s 180,000 miles. Again with this card, your total will be 5,000 miles less. So in coach it will be just 75,000 miles for a free round-trip ticket to Israel and 115,000 for a free business class round-trip ticket.
  • Off-peak award flights to Europe or South America is only 30,000 miles round-trip with this card when flying USAirways metal.

Barclaycard credit cards are fully churnable, so you can earn the bonus again even if you’ve had this card in the past.

index

In light of the recent USAirways / American Airlines merger, this card which is offered by Barclaycard will cease to be offered to new applicants at some point in the future. The new post merger card will be issued by Citibank. So this may just be the opportunity to get in on this mega offer before the card ceases to exist (especially if your looking to churn this card).

All USAirways miles will eventually be converted int AAdvantage miles. If you still have this card at that point, you will earn AA miles instead of the USAirways miles you earn now. This won’t stop you from double dipping and applying for the new issued card by Citibank.

If you applied for this card and were denied, you can call Barclays reconsideration at 866-408-4064.

Now Earn An Extra 2,500 Points w/Authorized User On New Chase Freedom

Update: This offer is expired.

———————————————

As of today, Chase starting offering an extra 2,500 bonus points when adding an authorized user on to a new Chase Freedom account. The new Freedom Captureaccount will still earn the 10,000 bonus points after $500 spend within the first 3 months. The authorized user will also have to make a purchase of any amount within 3 months to get the extra 2,500 points.

Taking into account the extra 2,500 bonus points, this is a 12,500 bonus point offer for opening a new Chase Freedom credit card.

 — Just note that this promotion is only for new accounts that are now opened and not existing accounts. Though, if you recently applied for a new Freedom account, you can always try requesting a match to this new offer via a Secure Message.

The full Freedom card benefits and terms:

  • Earn a $100 Bonus after you make $500 in purchases in your first 3 months from account opening
  • Earn a $25 Bonus after you add your first authorized user and make a purchase within this same 3-month period
  • 5% Cash Back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases between April 1 and June 30, 2014 at restaurants and Lowe’s® home improvement stores
  • You’ll enjoy new 5% categories every 3 months like gas stations, restaurants and Amazon.com. It’s free and easy to activate your bonus each quarter!
  • Unlimited 1% Cash Back on all other purchases
  • 0% Intro APR for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers.
  • No annual fee and rewards never expire

Also, If you have a Chase checking account, The freedom will earn you a 10% annual point dividend every February on all points earned during the previous calendar year.

One of the great benefits of the Freedom card is where you can rack up nice bonus points. The Freedom offers 5x category bonus points, where you earn 5 points per dollar spent on up-to $1,500 per quarter. There are 4 quarters per year, with each quarter offering different categories where you can earn the 5x points. This is similar to the Discover it card (read review here).

For example, this quarter you can get 5 points on every dollar at restaurants and Lowe’s home improvement stores. Lowe’s sells merchant gift cards to a slew of other merchants including Amazon. That means even if you do not plan on making any home improvement purchases, you can still maximize the 5x spend by buying gift cards to merchants where you will be shopping.

If you maximize the $1,500 spend per quarter on the 5x category spend (which is $6,000 in yearly spend) you will get 30,000 Ultimate Rewards points. Normally 30,000 Freedom Ultimate Rewards points equals $300 in cash-back, but if you have the Sapphire Preferred and/or Ink Plus/Bold cards, you can then transfer the points into your Sapphire/Ink accounts (read step by step instructions on how to do that, here).

Once the points are in your Sapphire/Ink accounts they can then also be transferred out to more lucrative options where the value per point can many times exceed the 1 cent value per point if you were to just redeem them for cash-back. Transfer options (in addition to cash back or gift cards) with the Sapphire/Ink cards are:  United Airlines, British Airways, Southwest, Korean, Virgin Atlantic, Hyatt Hotels, Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, Priority Club and Amtrak.

** For those just starting out with credit cards, the Chase Freedom card has been one of the easier cards to get approved, for those with no credit history, though it’s not guaranteed.

Discover it Credit Card Review + Activate Q2 5% Cash Back Categories

Update: This offer is expired.

Discover has upped their ante lately, and is starting to more aggressively compete in the credit card market. They have instituted many positive chanindexges in direct response to the competition.

They are now only marketing the Discover it card. This card comes in 3 different versions.

  1. Discover it 14 – 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 14 moths.
  2. Discover it 6/18 – 0% APR on purchase for the first 6 months and 0% APR on balance transfers for the first 18 months
  3. Discover it Student – 0% APR on purchases for the first 6 months.

They no longer promote the Discover More, Motiva, Open Road, Escape, and Miles cards.

One of the great benefits of the Discover it card is the 5% cash back categories. This is similar to the Chase Freedom card.

You can now activate the Discover it card 2nd quarter 5% cash back categories. Quarter 2 (April-June 31) cash back categories are Home Improvement Stores, Furniture Stores, and Bed Bath & Beyond. You can earn 5% cash back per dollar on up-to $1,500 spend per quarter.

You can also earn 5% cash back at a slew of other merchants including Amazon! Here’s how: You can buy gift cards to other merchants at Home improvement stores.  For example, Lowe’s sells a slew of merchant gift cards such as to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Marriot, Kohl’s, Marshall’s and many more. These gift cards can then be used throughout the year, and you’ve maximized your 5% cash back and have essentially saved 5% at those merchants. Of course you can also by Bed Bath & Beyond gift cards for future purchases etc;.

CaptureFull Discover it credit card highlights:

  • 5% cash back on rotating categories. This is an awesome feature. You’ll get 5% cash back on rotating categories each quarter. From April to June 2014, you’ll get 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in purchases in Home Improvement Stores, Furniture Stores, and Bed Bath & Beyond.
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases. This is nice, though not nearly as nice as the Barclaycard Arrival.
  • Free FICO score every month. You get a free real FICO score, not FAKO, updated every month, shown on your billing statement.
  • No annual fee, No overlimit fee and also No late fee on your first late payment, and paying late won’t raise your APR.
  • 0% Intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 14 months via this link or 0% Intro APR on balance transfers for the first 18 months via this link –  Afterwards the variable purchase APR applies, currently 10.99% – 22.99%.  A fee of 3% applies for each balance transferred.
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees – If you travel overseas every so often and don’t want to pay the 3% foreign transaction fee that most other credit cards charge – The Discover IT is for you. It can lay around until you are ready to travel without charging any fees.
  • Up To 20% Cash back via the Discover Shopping Portal –  You can make many of your online purchases through Discover’s shopping portal and get an extra 5%-20% cash-back on your purchase! – Nothing to sneeze for a fee free card.
  • FREE Collision car rental insurance – This card gives you Free Collision insurance on car rentals – including in Israel for up-to 25,000 in damage.
  • Human. 100% U.S.-based customer service available any time.  Instead of a complicated robot phone tree (think citi), you can now select at any time to go straight to a human.
  • Return Protection and Extended Warranty Protection.

Additionally, Discover sends out throughout the year targeted promotions to it’s cardholders for additional cash back opportunities.

The cash back on this card can be redeemed in the form of a statement credit, direct deposit to your bank account, gift cards or you can shop at Amazon and pay with your points. When redeeming your points for gift cards, discover many times has promotions where they offer you a bonus on your redemption.

If you do have one of the old plain Discover cards or Discover ‘more’ cards, you may want to call Discover up, and request that your card get switched over to the Discover it card, as this card is definitely better over the old ones (when switching over, you still get to keep the same card number and your credit history). On the other hand, If you have one of those Discover annual fee miles-type cards, it may be worth it for you to keep your card/s, though there’s nothing stopping you from getting the Discover it card in addition.

Bottom line: While Discover has still got a way to go to compete fully with the likes of American Express, Chase and Citi, this card without doubt has some pretty nice benefits. It offers a nice 5% cash back on rotating categories, up to a whopping 20% cash-back through the shopping portal, no foreign transaction fees and and no annual fee!
It is definitely a worthwhile addition to your wallet, though it probably shouldn’t be the only card in your wallet.

The consumer cards such as the Blue Cash, only have the option to redeem the points for merchandise or gift cards etc;.

The EveryDay card will have no annual fee and the EveryDay Preferred card will have a $95 annual fee which is similar to the Barclaycard Arrival ($89 annual fee – waived for the first year)

Cashing Out The 40,000, $440 Bonus On The Barclaycard Arrival Credit Card

Update: This offer is expired.

Update 02/20/14: The Minimum spend requirement to get the 40,000 point bonus, has now gone up to $3,000 spend within the first 90 days. The 20,000 bonus point offer on the no annual fee version of the BarclayCard Arrival, still only requires $1,000 spend within 90 days
——————————————

The Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard is one of the best cash back credit cards out there. It offers a nice 2 percent cash-back (in the form of points) on ALL purchases, Barclays-Arrivalplus an additional 10% back upon redeeming your points, so effectively you are getting a nice 2.2% back on all purchases.

Plus, it also offers 40,000 bonus points for spending $1,000 within the first 90 days. Upon redeeming those 40,000 bonus points you will get the 10% bonus which will be 4,000 points which in essence means that you are really getting 44,000 bonus points or in dollar terms, $440 free. This is being advertised as a limited time offer, the end date is unknown.

The way to redeem the points at full value though is to redeem them for “Travel Expenses”. That means any time you charge travel to your card you will have the option of paying for the travel with your points at 1 cent value per point (+ you’ll get the 10% back).

The travel can be booked via any booking site or straight from the agency etc;. Airlines, Travel Agencies & Tour Operators, Hotels, Motels & Resorts, Cruise Lines, Passenger Railways and Car Rental Agencies are all considered travel expenses. Once the charge shows up on your account you can the simply go online to your Barclays account (see below) and request that the purchase be refunded using your points.

For example if you spend $420 dollars on a plane ticket and have 42,000 points from the bonus from opening the card and spending the $1,000, you’ll be able to get a $420 cash refund. Plus, you’ll also get 4,200 points redeposited to your account worth $42.

This card also doesn’t charge any foreign transaction fees. The annual fee is waived for the first year. After the first year is up, if you do not want to pay the $89 annual fee, simply call up Barclays and downgrade to the no annual fee version of the BarclayCard Arrival World Mastercard. The main differences between the Annual fee version and the no annual fee version is that the no annual fee version only gives a 20,000 point signup bonus and you only get 2 points on travel and dining purchases. The no annual fee version also gives a 10% point refund with every redemption and has no foreign transaction fees.

Also a nice perk about Barclays, is that they generally only pull from Transunion no matter your location, as opposed to Chase, Amex or Citi. That mean’s that Chase, Amex or Citi will not see the credit pull from Barclays or vice versa. Though, Barclays will see all of your recently opened cards if they are over 30 days old. Another great thing is that if you are maxed applying for cards from Chase or Amex here’s another great offer you can take advantage of. Click here to get your real Transunion score for free .

75,000 Bonus Point Offer On The Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite Mastercard

These offers are expired.

Update: There is now another offer for 100,000 bonus miles! With the 100,000 bonus offer, you’ll need to spend $10,000 within the first 3 months as opposed to $7,500 on the 75,000 bonus offer. Also with the new 100,000 bonus offer, there is a $200 statement credit, essentially making the annual fee only $250. All other benefits are the same. When filling out the application, you can leave the referral code and airport code blank.
———————————–

There is a new ‘unofficial’ 75,000 bonus point offer from Citibank on the Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite Mastercard.

With this new offer, you’ll get 75,000 AAdvantage bonus miles after spending $7,500 within the first 3 months of card-membership. AA_Admiral_World_Elite_lg

Other benefits:

  1. A free Admirals Club membership (value of up to $475)
  2. You’ll earn 10,000 Elite Qualifying Miles after spending $40,000 in purchases each calendar year
  3. $100 in statement credits
  4. First checked bag is free
  5. Priority Boarding and 25% savings on eligible in-flight purchases
  6. There are also no foreign transaction fees on with this card

This card does have a hefty $450 annual fee (or $350 taking into account the $100 statement credit) and requires a large initial minimum spend to get the 75,000 bonus miles. Though, if you are a heavy AA/USAirways guy, this card does give free access to both the AA Admirals Club as well as the USAirways lounges. The Platinum American Express credit card, as of March 22nd, will stop offering lounge access to both AA & USAirways lounges, so at this point, this is the only card that offers complimentary lounge access.

Also, a great perk with this card is that when you spend $40,000 you’ll get 10,000 in elite qualifying miles.

As of January 7th, American Airlines AAdvatage miles can also now be used on USAirways flights and USAirways miles on American Airlines.

For the time being, you can also still pick up an extra 30,000 – 40,000 USAirways miles with the US Airways credit card. USAirways miles will eventually turn into AAdvantage miles.

As the link to the Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite Mastercard is an unofficial link, you will not see the bonus terms on the landing page, but as with all the other unofficial citi links, as long as the application shows, you should get the bonus.

(Thanks Deezee for the tip!)

Up To 50,000 Bonus Miles On The Frontier Airlines Credit Card

Update: This offer is expired.

For a limited time, the offer on the Frontier Airlines Credit Card has been increased. With this offer, you’ll get 40,000 bonus points after $500 spend or a $500 balance transfer within frontierthe first 3 months. You can also earn up-to 10,000 additional bonus miles with a balance transfer.
There is a $69 annual fee, which is not waived the first year.

Full benefits:

  • Earn 40,000 Bonus Miles after spending $500 in the first 90 days
  • Earn Up To 10,000 Bonus Miles (1 mile per $1) with balance transfers in the first 90 days
  • Earn Double Miles on Frontier purchases and 1 mile per $1 on all other purchases
  • Low Intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 12 months after account opening
  • Redeem companion tickets for 5,000 fewer miles (subject to fees/taxes from $5)
  • $69 annual fee

With Frontier Airlines, it is only 20,000 miles (compared to 25,000 miles on other airlines, excluding short haul flights using Avios) for a round-trip coach award anywhere in the US including Alaska, So 40,000 points is worth 2 round trip domestic flights.

A coach award to Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica & the Dominican Republic will only be 35,000 miles round trip. Click here for the reward chart

If you need to top off your account, you can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Frontier Airline miles at a 1:1 ratio.

You can also redeem your points for Rental cars at Avis, Hertz and National Car Rental. For example, a 1 day intermediate car rental from Avis, will be 7,500 miles, a 7day midsize National Car Rental will be 35,000 miles.

This card has a comparably low $500 minimum spending within the first 3 months, though you can always get American Express Serve to help reaching minimum spend thresholds, as you can upload $1,000 from your credit card, completely free, every month. You can also, for a limited time, get $50 when opening a Serve account. Paypal and/or Amazon Payments will qualify for direct deposit.

Also, a nice perk about Barclays Bank, is that they generally only pull from Transunion no matter your location, as opposed to Chase, Amex or Citi.

‘Bait & Switch’: Note that there are 2 versions for this card, there is an Annual fee Version and a No annual fee version. If if you are approved for the lower end, no annual fee version card, you will only get 10,000 bonus miles. The problem is though, that it’s possible even though you applied for the higher end 40,000 bonus version, that you will only be approved for the lower version card, depending on “your credit worthiness”, so you might want to keep this in mind when applying.

Other Barclays cards with mega sign-up bonuses you might want to consider are the Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard which offers 40,000 bonus points ($440 Signup bonus!) for spending $1,000 within 90 days, offers 2.2% cash-back on everything, and is one of the best cash back credit cards around. Another card you may consider is The US Airways Premier World MasterCard which offers up-to 40,000 Bonus points. For a full list of all the Barclaycard credit cards Click Here

If you are denied after applying for any of these cards, you can call Barclays reconsideration at 1-866-408-4064.

50,000 Bonus Points On Alaska Air Credit Card + What They Are Good For

Update: This offer is expired.

There is currently an awesome offer for 50,000 bonus points on the Bank of America Alaska Airlines credit card. This offer is “officially” targeted, though I have personally applied for 2 of them at the same time, using 2 different browsers and have been approved for the Visa Signature version on both!

Capture

There are 3 versions for this card, Visa Signature, Platinum Plus or Preferred. YOU WILL ONLY receive the 50,000 bonus if you are approved for the Visa Signature version – Which requires a $5,000 minimum credit line. If you are approved for the Platinum version your bonus will be just 5,000 points or with the preferred version, just 3,000 bonus points. The problem is though, that it’s possible even though you applied for the Visa Signature version, that you will only be approved for a lower version card.

With the Visa Signature offer you get:

  • 25,000 miles on approval.
  • Additional 25,000 miles after spending just $1,000 within the first 90 days.
  • $99 annual companion ticket.

There is a $75 annual fee which is not waived, and there is a 3% foreign transaction fee with this card. If you cancel the card within 60 days, you’ll get the annual fee refunded.

When filing out the application, you can leave the Frequent Flyer number blank if you do not have an account.

If you are not approved for the card, you can try calling the reconsideration department  at 1-866-530-9829. If you are asked for a priority code, you can use VAB3E9.

You can check your application status here.

Though Alaska air is not part of any alliance, they do have multiple partner airlines where you can also redeem Alaskan points. When redeeming points on partner airlines there is a small fee of $12.50 for a one way award or $25 for round-trip. Partner airlines include Aeromexico, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Delta Airlines, ERA Alaska, Emirates, Fiji, Korean, KLM, LAN, Pen Air, and Qantas. The only airline that they asses “fuel surcharges” for award travel is on British Airways.

Alaska Airlines allows for 1 way award travel. Plus, When flying solely on Alaska Airlines metal, you are allowed a free stopover on a one-way domestic award, including awards to Hawaii.

When booking Partner airlines for international travel, you can also book one way award travel (excluding Delta and Korean) and are also allowed one free stopover. Though, when booking Delta or Korean you will be charged as a round-trip fare. Just note, that when you book an award ticket on a partner airline, you can only have one partner airline in addition to Alaska Airlines for each one-way segment.

A one way domestic award flight on Alaska Airlines is just 12,500 miles, plus you get a free stopover. When redeeming on American Airlines or Delta, It will be the same amount of miles but you will not get the free stopover.

Changing or cancelling an award ticket 60 days before travel is free. A change or cancellation within 60 days will set you back $125.

Get a 100% Bonus for Sharing US Airways Miles – Get Miles For As Low As 1.1 cents!

Update 2: This awesome offer is scheduled to end today.

Update: This offer is around again through December 6th. Though this time, the offer is tiered, meaning you’ll only get the full 100% bonus if you share over 30,000 miles. Also, bear in mind that US Airways will be merging with American Airlines, so if you will not be burning the miles soon, they will turn into AAdvantage miles.  Also, this is likely from the last opportunities to get in on such cheap Star Alliance (and eventually American Airlines miles) before the merger, so if you’ve hesitated in the past, this is your opportunity.

US Airways Share Miles LINKindex

Here’s an awesome promotion from US Airways. Through October 15th, on the first 50,000 US Airways miles you share with a friend/spouse, US Airways will double the transfer up-to a maximum of 50,000 bonus miles!

Sharing the maximum amount (to receive the bonus) of 50,000 miles (i.e. paying to transfer them to someone else’s account) costs ~$568, including the $30 processing fee and 7.5% excise tax.

But the person to whom you transfer the miles would earn an extra 50,000 miles!

So you’ve essentially only paid 1.14 cents per mile ($568 / 50,000 US Air bonus miles) for the 50,000 bonus miles – which is quite a fantastic deal!!

Of course after your friend/spouse received the transfer, they can then share 50,000 miles right back to you or to another account, again for a total of 100,000 miles for the same cost.

Amex Platinum Losing AA & US Airways Lounge Access

American Express has announced that Beginning March 22, 2014, Platinum cardholders will no longer have complimentary access to the American Admirals Club or US Airways Club lounges.Capture

This applies to  all American Express Platinum cards (Consumer, Business and Corporate Platinum and Centurion Cards)

Complimentary lounge access to The Delta Sky Clubs will still be offered with a Platinum card and a same-day Delta ticket as well as The Airspace Lounges and Centurion Lounges, and you will still get complimentary membership in Priority Pass Select.

Amex has been sending out targeted emails to some of it’s cardmembers, offering between $200 – $500 of statement credits for incidentals fees from either of those airlines between March 22, 2014 to December 31, 2014.

Those statement credits can be used for;

  • Membership fees in the Admirals Club program and US Airways Club
  • One-day passes to Admirals Club lounges and US Airways Clubs
  • Other American Airlines and US Airways incidental fees like baggage fees or flight change fees – (Airline Gift cards anyone? 😉 )

This $200-$500 targeted credit is in addition to the $200 annual airline credit, which is pretty nice, being that it cancels out the annual fee of $450 for nearly two years!

Now the only card that will offer “complimentary” AA lounge access is the American Airlines Executive AAdvantage card. Though with it’s hefty $450 annual fee + not nearly anywhere as many benefits as the Amex Platinum offers, you would need a pretty good reason to get one.

Amex Small Business Promo Is Coming Back – $10 Statement Credit + What You Need To Know

Update: Today is the big day. Don’t forget to register your cards before you make purchases. You can register here or by calling 1-866-515-4134 – Press 1. ———————————————-

For the past 4 years American Express has been running a Small Business Saturday promo, where Amex cardholders would receive $25 statement Capturecredits on purchases made with their American Express cards at registered small businesses. This year the promo has returned, though this year instead of $25, the credit will only be $10. This years SBS will be taking place on November 30.

To get the $10 credit, you will need to spend $10 or more in a single in-store transaction at a qualifying small business that appears on the Small Business Saturday Map. Online transactions do not qualify.

To take part in this promo you will need to register your AMEX credit cards. You will be able to register your American Express Cards at www.shopsmall.com at 12:00 A.M. MST (Mountain Standard Time) on 11/24/13 until 11:59 P.M. MST on 11/30/13, unless the registration limit is reached sooner. Registration is limited.

In the past years all AMEX credit cards worked for  this promotion – even from 3rd party issuers, such as the no annual fee Travelocity American Express Credit card which is issued by Barclays bank. However, if for whatever reason you do not get credit automatically, unlike with cards issued direct by American Express, where getting the credit issued manually is as simple as a phone call or sending a Secure Message, with a 3rd party issued card it will be extremely difficult.

This year also, the FREE AMEX Serve is included in in this promo. So even if you do not have any American Express credit cards, or have bad credit and can’t get approved for an American Express credit card, you can still take advantage of this promotion as the Amex Serve is open to anyone (good or bad credit) and there is no credit pull when applying.

Additionally, This promo works with primary and secondary user cards issued directly from AMEX (where the account numbers are all different), but not with secondary cards from 3rd party issuers like Barclays etc;. Of course each card must be registered separately but you are able to use the same email address. With American Express cards you can add up-to 99 additional user cards, though it is not recommended as adding too many user cards is a risk of getting a “Financial Review” where AMEX suspends your account until you provide your tax documents. Also, even if you are only planning on adding a few such as 5 or more additional user cards, it is recommended to space them out. When adding additional user cards, AMEX asks for the users social security number. You can just say you don’t have it off hand, and you can ignore the requests you will get for that in the mail.

Bottom line: It’s worth it to add some additional users to your AMEX accounts, as each additional user cards will be another free $10, (and it will help you cover the annual fee on your card) but it’s not worth it to over do it, unless you are okay with a “financial Review”. Also, it may be worth is to sign up for the free AMEX Serve as there will be no credit pull or anything, and you’ll even get a free $50. To get the FREE $50 you’ll need to make 2 direct deposits of $250 each, which is extremely simple, as Amazon Payments or PayPal will work just fine for this. Additionally, with Serve, you can add up-to $1,000 from your credit card per month which in turn equals free miles/points. That’s 12,000 FREE miles/points a year!

American Express Gift Cards W/No Fees! = Meeting Minimum Spend Requirements For Free

Now through January 31st, 2014 American Express is offering Gift Cards without the usual fee of $3.95-$6.95 per card when using promo code HOLIDAYCC3. This promo code does not waive the shipping charge.

amex gc

Gift cards range between $25 – $3000 and you can purchase up-to $5000 worth of gift cards.

A great thing about gift cards (besides for giving gifts, of course) is that it’s a great way to meet minimum spend requirements for credit card sign-up bonuses within the allotted time frame!

Unlike merchant specific gift cards, Amex gift cards can be used virtually anywhere, as they are accepted anywhere American Express is accepted.

Note: Citibank generally processes gift card purchases as cash advances, so you definitely DO NOT want to purchase these on your Citibank credit card. Additionally, purchasing large amounts on your American Express credit card “may” lead to a “financial review”.
